Barbara, a member of the Citizen Band  Potawatomi , has a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering.  She is an experienced Teacher and has completed Leadership Training at the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, California.

Barbara belongs to the Word Craft Circle of Native American Writers & Storytellers , a member of the American Indian Science & Engineering Society, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Barbara is a registered Civil Engineer. Barbara served on the Board of Directors of the American Indian Public Charter School in Oakland, California. She served for two years on the National Board of Directors of the Society of Women Engineers.

Barbara won Grand Prize from the Citizen Potawatomi National Tribal Art Competition (1999) in Shawnee Oklahoma.
In 1990, Barbara was named as Distinguished New Engineer by the Society of Women Engineers.

Barbara is currently teaching Middle School in Oakland, California. She teaches environmental and physical science, pre-algebra, multicultural studies and crafts for grades 7 and 8. She is also involved in curriculum development for hands on science and mathematics activities. For the past 7 years Barbara has been a Native American Storyteller at school assemblies, cultural/educational programs for elementary and middle school students at local libraries, museums, Indian Agency activities and pow wows. She has taught math and science at theAmerican Indian Public Charter School as wellas cultural studies for 7th and 8th grade students.She developed curriculum for hands-on thematic and fully integrated activities focusing on tribal cultures. Before teaching in middle schools, Barbara was the Science Instructor and Traditional Native American Storyteller for a number of early childhood educational centers. She created and presented Nature and Science curriculum for preschool aged children through grade 2.

We are lucky to have this wonderful woman as a part of the Learning Center. She is an invaluable asset to both SJRIHEC and the Native American community.
